Police say thieves broke into a police substation and cut through an adjacent wall to steal $36,000 worth of hair weaves from Beauty Depot according to ajc.com.

“This is going to be an office for detectives,” Sgt. Greg Lyon said. “Whoever broke into this office probably didn’t realize it belonged to us.”

That’s because the Martin Luther King Drive office is still being renovated for Zone 1 investigators, and there’s nothing showing it belongs to Atlanta police, Lyon said.

In the early morning hours Thursday, thieves broke into the future police office, then knocked a hole in the wall to enter a neighboring beauty supply shop, according to police. The thieves then helped themselves to about $36,000 worth of hair weaves from Beauty Depot, Lyon said.

The owners of the shop explained to Channel 2 Action News that this is the second time the shop has been burglarised. It was not known Thursday whether the theft was linked to dozens of other hair weave heists in the local area in recent years.

The latest thefts remain under police investigation.
